Thank goodness for a dress code at the Power & Light District. And no, it’s not racial. Whites as well as African-Americans wear those long baggy pants, and I, for one, am glad that they’re taking a stand down there. We have a nice place to go and a place we can show out-of-towners. If two visitors from Tennessee can respect our dress code (6/20, A-1, “A dressing-down over dress code”), then why can’t locals?

Once again our city takes one step forward and two steps back. Our local restaurants and bars suffer while the Power & Light District gets the majority of the business. Why is it we take care of outsiders and give the shaft to our locals? These people are local, save their money and open their businesses, just to have the city make it as tough on them as they can. Thank you, Kay Barnes. Kansas Citians, wise up and head to Kansas. And don’t believe that stuff about no crime downtown.Don Witmer

Fuel, the lifeblood of our economy, is in the daily news. If the billions of dollars wasted in the five-plus years in Iraq had been invested in finding alternatives to oil, this country would be more secure. Instead it has enriched the oil barons and arms producers of the world and the U.S., made this country a debtor nation and allowed foreign companies to be farther ahead in advanced alternative fuel technology.Arlene Schumann
